Most children are already familiar with bees as useful honey suppliers, and not just from the stories of Maya the Bee - at the same time, their stings are feared. However, unless they are threatened, bees are extremely harmless and many beekeepers even approach their hives without a protective suit. Bees - like other insects - are very useful animals, as they not only provide us with honey, but also pollinate all flowering plants. Without bees, many types of fruit and vegetables would be missing from our tables.

In this themed booklet, children learn more about the world of honey bees: They look at their body structure and their development from the egg through the larva and pupa stage to the adult bee. They also learn about the special tasks of the queen, workers and drones in the beehive and important flowering plants as a food source for bees. They learn how honey is made and what the work of a beekeeper looks like.
Finally, the pupils look at "bee-friendly" plants and develop ideas on how they can protect honey bees and wild bees.
