It contains most of the current knowledge on both the theoretical basis and the practical aspects of using biotechnical methods to control the population of the Varroa destructor parasite. These methods are to be understood as preventive measures that effectively support the natural defense mechanisms of bee colonies. The book offers concrete suggestions for solutions, but these must be adapted to the specific circumstances of individual apiaries. The author therefore hopes that it will also serve as inspiration for further improvements in biotechnical varroa control.

Author: Krzystof Olszewski

Researcher and lecturer at the Apiculture Department of the University of Natural Sciences in Lublin. In 2023 he was awarded the scientific title of Professor of Agricultural Sciences in the discipline of Animal Breeding and Fisheries. A graduate of the Zofia and Tadeusz Wawryn Beekeeping School in Pszczela Wola and the Agricultural Academy in Lublin.

His scientific interest is the honey bee. He is involved in research into their biology, selected aspects of parasitology and the further development of husbandry and breeding methods. In his research, he places particular emphasis on the practical benefits for modern beekeeping.

He leads the Polish team for biotechnical varroa control as part of the Varroa Resistance 2033 movement.
