Special warnings for each target species

Efficacy may vary between colonies due to the conditions of use (presence of brood, temperature, clean station, etc.). The veterinary medicinal product should be used as part of an integrated Varroa control program with regular monitoring of mite infestation. The use of different substances throughout the year is recommended to avoid the risk of resistance development.
The drip application must be carried out on brood-free colonies in the fall/winter as a single treatment at temperatures between 5 °C and -15 °C. The spray application (fall/winter or spring/summer) must be carried out on the brood-free colony as a single treatment at temperatures above 8 °C.

The application of large quantities of oxalic acid can lead to increased bee mortality and queen loss. Exact dosage is important.

Special precautions for use on animals

Avoid disturbing the hives in the days following treatment. Repeated treatment of the same generation of bees can damage the bees and reduce colony strength.
After the summer treatment of Swarms, artificial swarms or broodless nucleuses, a fall/winter treatment must be carried out. Do not spray on combs that are used for honey production in the current year.

Special precautions for the user

Cause severe irritation to the respiratory tract. Avoid direct contact, accidental ingestion and inhalation of spray mist of the veterinary medicinal product. When handling the veterinary medicinal product, the user should wear protective equipment consisting of acid-resistant gloves and safety goggles. A respirator mask type FFP2 must also be worn for spray application.
In case of accidental ingestion, rinse mouth with water and drink plenty of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting. In case of skin or eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and remove contact lenses. If skin/eye irritation persists or if the veterinary medicinal product has been inhaled or swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and consult a doctor.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other interactions

Do not use at the same time as other acaricides against varroosis.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency measures, antidotes)

In Western and Central Europe, a single treatment with up to 4.6 % (m/V) oxalic acid dihydrate in late fall is well tolerated. Minor bee losses are usually compensated by the colony. A much higher dose than recommended (more than 5 % (m/V)) can lead to a doubling of bee mortality and poor overwintering of the colony in spring. Repeated treatments in the same season can lead to increased bee mortality and impaired brood development as well as queen loss.

Incompatibilities

Do not use at the same time as other acaricides against varroosis. Precipitation may occur with calcium-containing solutions. Corrosion-sensitive materials should not come into contact with oxalic acid dihydrate solutions

Contraindications

The oxalic acid dihydrate solution must not be used on colonies with brood, as the solution does not affect Varroa in brood cells.

Side effects

The colony may react somewhat restlessly during treatment. The drip application can lead to a slight weakening of the colony development in spring. Spray or drizzle application may increase bee mortality.
If you notice any side effects in your animal, especially those not listed in the package leaflet, or if you suspect that the veterinary medicinal product has not worked, please inform your veterinarian or pharmacist.

Dosage for each animal species, type and duration of use

A) Tear drop application
Preparation of the ready-to-use 3.5 % (m/V) oxalic acid dihydrate solution:

Warm up the oxalic acid dihydrate solution in the container in a water bath (30-35 °C). Remove from the water bath and open the sealed container. Add the required amount of sugar (sucrose) as used to feed the bees:
- 275 g of sugar when using the 275 g bottle
Close the bottle and shake vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved. The solution is now ready to use and should be drizzled on lukewarm.
Application:
Fill the syringe (60 ml) or similar aid through the wide opening of the container with the required amount of ready-to-use solution to treat one colony. The dose per honeycomb side is 0.25 ml/dm2 for Western and Central Europe and 0.4 ml/dm2 for Southern Europe.

Volume of ready-to-use drip solution per occupied comb alley:
Western/Central Europe:
Small frames (DNM, National, Simplex, WBC, Zander): 3-4 ml
Large frames (Dadant, Swiss box): 5-6 ml
Maximum dose per colony 50 ml

Southern Europe:
Small frames (DNM, National, Simplex, WBC, Zander): 5-6 ml
Large frames (Dadant, Swiss box): 8-10 ml
Maximum dose per colony 80 ml

For two-box hives, first spray the lower box and then the upper box.
The mite infestation lasts for 3 weeks.
The ready-to-use solution is sufficient for the treatment of 6-15 colonies when using the 275 g bottle. The ready-to-use solution must be used immediately and cannot be stored after preparation.

B) Spray application
Preparation of the ready-to-use 3 % (m/V) oxalic acid dihydrate solution:
Add drinking water to the solution:
- 250 g (250 ml) drinking water if using the 275 g bottle
Close the container and shake well. The solution is now ready for use.
Application:
Fill a spray bottle or similar tool with the required amount of ready-to-use solution. Spray 2-4 ml of the solution on each side of the comb occupied by bees. The dose must be reduced by 50 % if only half of the comb is occupied. The maximum dose is 80 ml per hive. The total volume required depends on the type of hive.
Colonies without brood, nucleus without brood or new swarms in the hive should be sprayed with 0.3 ml/dm2 of the comb area fully occupied with bees; see the following overview for the dosages for the usual hives:

Hive type:
DNM, National, Simplex, WBC, Zander:
2-3 ml ready-to-use spray solution per fully occupied comb side

Commercial beehive, Langstroth, Swiss box:
2.5-3.5 ml ready-to-use spray solution per fully occupied comb side

AZ-hive (SI), Dadant:
3-4 ml ready-to-use spray solution per fully occupied comb side

Swarms, artificial swarms in clusters are sprayed with 20-25 ml of the ready-to-use solution per kg of bee mass.
For an exact dosage, spray 10 pump strokes into a measuring cup using the spray bottle and calculate the quantity per pump stroke. Then calculate the number of pumps required to treat one side of the comb. Spray the combs at an angle of 45° to minimize entry into the cells. The mite infestation lasts for 3 weeks.

Swarms, broodless artificial swarms and broodless nucleuses should be treated once in spring/summer when the majority of bees are in the hive (in the evening).
The ready-to-use solution is sufficient for the treatment of 5-10 colonies when using the 275 g bottle.

Waiting times

Honey: 0 days for correctly treated colonies. Carry out treatment without honey chambers in place.

Do not store above 30 °C. Do not store in the refrigerator or freeze. Protect from frost. Store upright in the original packaging. Keep the bottle tightly closed. Do not expose to direct sunlight. Dispose of unused ready-to-use solution.
