FAQ about the Imgut Velutina entrance trap

The entrance trap is specially designed for the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina)and is also suitable for other hornets and wasps in the vicinity of bee colonies.

The entrance trap is supplied without bait. You can use your own bait, for example sweet liquids or special Velutina attractants, which are available from beekeeping suppliers.

The funnel is designed for standard 1.5 to 2 liter PET bottles. For other bottle types, the tight fit should be checked carefully.

The selective design and inlet reduces bycatch of honey bees compared to many conventional traps, making the trap more bee-friendly. However, it is not possible to completely eliminate bycatch.

Hang the PET bottle trap around the apiary, preferably where you observe Vespa velutina flight activity. Avoid hanging the trap directly in front of the Entrance of the hives.

Please use exclusively for the Vespa Velutina (Asian hornet).

Please remove other insects and the specially protected Vespa Crabro (European hornet) from the trap, e.g. by cooling it in the refrigerator for a short time beforehand.

Place the trap in a shady place out of direct sunlight and check it daily
