The Segeberg broodbody 1,5 with a short recessed handle is a sturdy Hartstyropor® box in the Segeberg system for the standard “Anderthalb” size. It accommodates 11 frames with a height of 338 mm and provides a large, compact brood chamber.

With this high box, you can keep bees in the Dadant style using just one large brood chamber while providing your bees with a quiet, well-insulated nest.

Quick Guide – Segeberg broodbody 1,5 with short recessed handle

1. Preparation

  • Make sure the bottom board, existing boxes, and lid of the Segeberg Hive are clean and dry.
  • Have a sufficient number of standard-size “Anderthalb” frames prepared and wired ready to use.

2. Placing on the hive

  • Place the “Anderthalb” high box centrally and straight on the bottom board or on existing boxes.
  • Use the short recessed handles to guide the super securely and prevent the boxes from becoming misaligned.

3. Loading with Frames

  • Hang up to 11 standard-size “Anderthalb” frames, distributing them evenly.
  • Ensure a clean comb structure and sufficient feeding and brood areas, especially when reconfiguring the brood chamber.

4. Operation Throughout the Season

  • Use the high box as the sole large brood chamber.
  • Placehoney supers with shallower boxes on top.
  • Regularly check the brood nest, food stores, and swarming tendencies.

5. Cleaning and Storage

  • After the season, sweep out empty boxes while they are dry or clean them with lukewarm water.
  • Protect hard polystyrene boxes from direct sunlight.
  • Store the boxes in a well-ventilated, dry place.
