Practical handbook
for "louse boys" and "louse girls" for louse observation

Forest honey is extremely popular with honey lovers due to its mild, malty to balsamic taste.
It is an important source of income for beekeepers.

However, hardly anyone knows that forest honey is not made from the "nectar" of the trees, but from aphids that live on the conifers (mostly on spruce and fir). These lice bite the trees and feed on the sap that circulates in the bark of the tree. The aphids excrete the excess, sugar-rich sap as so-called honeydew . Honeydew is collected by the bees, brought into the hive as food and stored in the honeycombs.

Touring instructor Peter Books has specialized in this topic and passes on his knowledge to all beekeepers in this unique book. He introduces all the important aphids for forest honey production and their life on the trees, shows the life cycle of the animals (because there is not a rich harvest every year) and explains how beekeepers can take advantage of this opportunity to obtain forest honey, e.g. by specifically hiking to the edges of the forest with their bees.

Another focus of this Books is the observation of the different louse populations in order to be able to estimate early on how the harvest will turn out.

A must for every beekeeper!
