With the help of conventional chemical-based treatment concepts, it has been possible to get honey bee diseases under control over a relatively long period of time. The development of resistance in pathogens, the constant emergence of new pathogens and the harmful effects of chemical substances on the bee colony cast doubt on traditional pathogenetic treatment concepts.
