This book is designed to make it easier for hobby beekeepers to get started with large-capacity hives, with very specific recommendations based on a proven method of operation. After 10 years of beekeeping with around 10 colonies in Dadant hives in Upper Bavaria, this has proven to be the optimal method for me. The book is intended as a guide and focuses on the aspects of a natural and efficient method of operation. It is intended to reduce the uncertainties of the beginner, e.g. by offering alternative measures for certain situations.

At the heart of the operating concept are the ideas of an adapted brood chamber and systematic comb management.
