Product Description

The Apishold^® Reflective Fleece is a vapor-permeable, heat-reflective fleece for beehives that noticeably improves the hive climate, moisture management, and thermal insulation. It was developed at the University of Innsbruck and specifically tailored to the needs of modern hive systems.

The special aluminum coating reflects up to 95% of infrared heat radiation back into the hive, thereby supporting the colony’s thermal balance. At the same time, the fleece remains vapor-permeable, allowing excess moisture to escape and preventing harmful moisture buildup.

When used in combination with the Apishold Transparent inner cover , the heat-reflective properties are permanently maintained. The reflective fleece lies on top of the plastic sheet and is thus protected from propolis and wild comb. The system is optimally complemented by the Apishold Transparent inner cover, which further enhances thermal insulation. The combination of the cover film, reflective fleece, and insulating lid creates a balanced microclimate inside the hive and promotes the health and development of your colonies.

Quick Guide – Apishold^® Reflective Fleece

1. Preparation

Open the hive and briefly lift or remove any existing crown boards (if necessary).
Havethe Apishold^® Reflective Fleece ready, ensuring it matches your hive model.

2. Inserting into the Bottom Area / Varroa Cup

Clean and dry the Varroa cup or bottom tray.
Cut the reflective fleece to size or place it so that it lies flat.
Positionthe reflective side facing up toward the bee colony.

3. Insert in the lid area / insulated lid

If necessary, first place the Apishold cover film on the Frames.
Insert the reflective fleece above the film in the insulated lid or as an insulating partition.
Positionthe reflective side facing down toward the hive.

4. Combination with Other Hive Accessories

When using with an insulated lid, insulated aprons, or partitions, ensure that the fleece lies flat across the entire surface.
Design the joints so that no significant drafts are created.

5. Inspection and Maintenance

Visually inspect the fleece regularly for damage or heavy soiling.
If necessary, clean it gently or replace it to maintain its heat-reflecting and vapor-permeable properties.
