The Imgut® Multihive Dadant US consists of 3 parts: a Varroa bottom board, a brood body and a lid.

Innovative upper edge protection

  • for more stability: reinforces frequently stressed areas and protects them effectively in beekeeping practice

Imgut® Multihive Nucleus Hives made of EPS: Expanded polystyrene

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) rigid foam is a plastic that is ideal for the production of beehive boxes due to its versatile properties and has proven itself in beekeeping practice for decades.

Material properties of the Imgut® Multihive Nucleus Hives

  • light and stable: for easy handling and joint-friendly beekeeping
  • weather-resistant with UV protection: durable and stable in all weather conditions
  • insulating: the insulating properties of the material protect the interior from external weather influences and help the bees to maintain the temperature of the beehive
  • HBCD-free: our material is free from HBCD, a flame-retardant additive that is considered harmful to health
  • Environmentally friendly: 100% recyclable

Worth knowing

Hive parts made of rigid foam shrink by up to one percent within the first year after production. With an external dimension of 50 cm, this corresponds to half a centimeter. The majority of the shrinking process takes place in our warehouse and is not always fully completed on delivery. That`s why "fresh" boxes have less bearung surface for the frames than older boxes.

Care

The thoroughly hard-foamed hive parts are supplied raw white. We recommend painting the outside for camouflage reasons, for example. You can use our Beehive Paint for Styropor® hives for this purpose. An additional protective coating is not required. For cleaning, simply scrape off the rigid foam walls with a stick chisel. All hive parts can be disinfected with hot caustic soda solution.

Repair

If a polystyrene hive is damaged, e.g. by storms or everyday beekeeping practice, you can simply repair it with our repair products for Styropor® hives.
