Franconian Hive Complete Hive with High Bottom, Zander

Product Information

This polystyrene magazine hive, consisting of a High Bottom, three full frames for Zander-sized hives, and a lid of your choice*, allows you to keep bees using Zander-sized frames in a cold setup. We also offer a wide product range of accessories and additional parts for this hive: various bottoms, hive paints and covers, as well as, for example, Bee escapes and Multi purpose crown boards.

The Franconian Hive Complete System

The Franconian Hive Complete System is characterized by the fact that different frame sizes can be used while maintaining a uniform exterior dimension. This is made possible by the varying wall thicknesses of the Boxes depending on the frame size. The Franconian Hive Complete System includes boxes suitable for 12 German Standard (DN) frames, 10 Zander frames, 11 Langstroth frames, 11 Dadant US frames, or 11 Dadant Blatt frames—offering the right frame size for every beekeeping operation. All Franconian Hive boxes are fully compatible with one another thanks to their high-quality craftsmanship; this also applies to our Franconian Hive wooden boxes.

*You can choose between a lid without a feed recess and a lid with a feed recess.

HartporStyropor®

Hartpor Styropor®—or simplyHartstyropor® —is a plastic that, thanks to its versatile properties, is ideally suited for the manufacture of beehives.

Material Properties

  • Lightweight and sturdy: for easy handling and beekeeping that’s easy on the joints
  • Weather-resistant: durable and stable in all weather conditions
  • Insulating: The material’s insulating properties protect the interior from external weather conditions and help the bees regulate the temperature inside the beehive
  • HBCD-free: Our Styropor is free of HBCD, a flame-retardant additive considered harmful to health

Good to Know

HartporStyropor®hive components shrink by up to one percent within the first year after production. For an outer dimension of 50 cm, that amounts to half a centimeter. Most of the shrinkage occurs in our warehouse, but the process is not yet fully complete at the time of delivery. Therefore, frames in “fresh” boxes have a larger contact surface area than those in older ones. Our sturdy ventilation grilles, which are one millimeter thick, are carefully glued in place with hot glue before shipment. Nevertheless, the ventilation grilles may come loose due to the tension generated during the shrinkage process and depending on usage. To reattach the ventilation grilles, we recommend using a hot glue gun with the appropriate hot glue or ourApiDana® hive adhesive.

Cleaning and Care

Care

To better protect the durable material and prevent light from entering during strong sunlight, we recommend painting all hive components. You can use Beehive Paint for Styropor for this purpose.

Repair

If a Styropor® hive is damaged—for example, by storms or during everyday beekeeping—you can easily repair it using our repair kits for Styropor® hives.
