Herold Hive

Zwei Heroldbeuten stehen auf einer Wiese, ein imker trägt eine Zarge

The Herold Hive is a classic among Wooden Hives and - like the well-known Franconian Hive® - is versatile and flexible. For many decades, this type of hive was produced in Verl and elsewhere under the name ZaNo hive. Several workshops for the disabled now also produce the Herold or ZaNo hive. Our own Herold Hive is produced directly on site and is fully compatible with the aforementioned types.

Our Herold Hive at a glance

  • Suitable frame sizes: 12 frames standard size warm setup, 10 frames Zander cold setup, standard size 1½, ZaDant
  • Manufacture: Made in our joinery from 30 mm solid wood. Boxes with stable inner rebate (approx. 47.6 x 40.2 cm) for a secure stand, windproofness and a firm hold during transport and tilt control
  • External dimensions: approx. 49.6 x 44 cm, with Handle bars 54.2 x 44 cm

In addition to the complete hives, you will also find individual hive parts, i.e. floors, the various Boxes and lids as well as the matching accessories. We also offer matching frames and suitable paints.

Did you already know?
We only use untreated solid wood with all its natural properties and characteristics. The weather in the form of sun, rain and cold as well as fluctuating humidity affects all dried and sawn wood if it is not protected.

Our tip:
Paint the hives up to three times, roughening the surface with sandpaper between coats. Then refresh periodically depending on the condition and personal preference.

After the bees have moved in, the hives develop their own indoor climate. The temperature and humidity inside the hive differs from the climate outside. As a result, condensation can form under the lid, mold can form and the hive parts can crack. For better air circulation, we recommend raising the hive stands and removing the sticky board after the varroa check.
