The Imgut^® Velutina Trap Pro is a selective live trap designed for the targeted capture of the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) at the apiary. The large 5-liter collection container made of transparent plastic allows for easy inspection and long-term monitoring.

The trap operates with an attractant container, an entry funnel, and a float. The hornets are safely guided into the collection container, while other insects can escape through designated openings or be released as needed.

The design is tailored for Vespa velutina. Other insects can usually escape through special openings or be intentionally released, ensuring that the trap operates in a bee-friendly and selective manner.

Check the trap at least once a day, carefully remove any bycatch, and replenish the attractant according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This ensures the trap remains highly effective and is used in a manner that respects animal welfare.

Special Velutina attractants are the most effective for Vespa velutina. Alternatively, following the attractant manufacturer’s instructions, you can also use sugar-based mixtures, which are safely stored in a separate attractant container.

The ideal location is within the hornets’ flight path, slightly offset from the apiary and easily accessible for daily checks. Avoid placing it directly over the entrances so as not to disturb the bees unnecessarily.

Quick Guide – Imgut^® Velutina Trap Pro

1. Preparation

Make sure all parts (collection container, lid, entry funnel, attractant container, float) are complete and clean.
Choose a quiet, easily accessible spot near the apiary.

2. Fill with attractant

Fill the attractant container with a suitable Velutina attractant or the recommended mixture according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Make sure the insects do not drown directly in the attractant; it should serve only as a source of scent.

3. Assemble and set up the trap

Insert the float into the collection container.
Assemble the entry funnel and the lid according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Place or hang the trap in the hornets’ flight path, slightly offset from the apiary, ensuring it is stable and cannot tip over.

4. Operation and Inspection

Check the trap at least once a day for catches and any bycatch.
Release any insects that are not Asian hornets unharmed.
Replace or replenish the attractant regularly to maintain its effectiveness.

5. Emptying and Cleaning

Wear appropriate protective gear if there may still be live hornets in the trap.
Carefully empty the collection container at a suitable location in accordance with local regulations.
Rinse the container with warm water and let all parts dry thoroughly before reloading the trap.
